FREEDOM-7: A High Fidelity Seven Axis Haptic Device with Application to Surgical Training
نویسندگان
چکیده
A seven axis haptic device, called the Freedom-7, is described in relation to its application to surgical training. The generality of its concept makes it also relevant to most other haptic applications. The design rationale is driven by a long list of requirements since such a device is meant to interact with the human hand: uniform response, balanced inertial properties, static balancing, low inertia, high frequency response, high resolution, low friction, arbitrary reorientation, and low visual intrusion. Some basic performance gures are also reported.

A Robust Controller with Online Authority Transformation for Dual User Haptic Training System
In this study, a force reflection control structure is developed for the surgery training haptic system. In the surgery training haptic system, the surgical operation is cooperatively performed by a trainer and a trainee. The participation of each surgeon in the operation is established through their own haptic consoles. Although the operation is primarily performed by the trainee, the trainer ...
متن کاملThe Effect of Haptic Degrees of Freedom on Task Performance in Virtual Surgical Environments
Force and touch feedback, or haptics, can play a significant role in the realism of virtual reality surgical simulation. While it is accepted that simulators providing haptic feedback often outperform those that do not, little is known about the degree of haptic fidelity required to achieve simulation objectives. This article evaluates the effect that employing haptic rendering with different d...
متن کاملA 6 Degrees-of-Freedom Haptic Milling Simulator for Surgical Training of Vertebral Operations
In the research presented here, the aim has been to develop a haptic milling simulator for surgical training of vertebral operations. One central goal has been to create a simulator that gives the user a realistic impression of contacts with, and milling of, a virtually represented bone tissue model. A new 6 degrees-of-freedom haptic algorithm for milling is implemented together with new 6 degr...
متن کاملInvestigating the Role of Simulation Fidelity
Minimally invasive surgery (MIS), with its aptitude for quick recovery and minimal scarring, has revolutionized surgery over the past few years. As a result, the development of a VR-based surgical trainer for MIS has been a popular area of research. However, there still remains a fundamental question of how realistic the simulation has to be for effective training. On the one hand, learning sur...
